Yellowbelly (NZ) Release New Single "Emily Joy Morrison" (Vomit Punk)

Yellowbelly have released their new single "Emily Joe Morrison" Streaming below as a "Free Download". It's the first song off their forthcoming e.p as of yet untitled. They're a heavy Kiwi rock band with plenty of snarl and a winning attitude coming straight out of Papakura.

Words from Yellowbelly;

We totally didn't rip off anyone while recording this.
Thanks to Moss at Rocawave Records for helping us record our "odd" sounds and for not saying any harsh words; thank you to the people who may or may not choose to listen.

Emily Joy Morrison (lyrics)
Pour your crown
Burn your lungs
Tie your hair
Joy

Lick your palms
Cut yourself
Twist a smile
Joy

Close your eyes
Sharpen your teeth
Aimer un son

Catching up with Chris Mac at his Club Night at Flight 605

I had a great time at Chris Mac's club night at Flight 605 last Saturday. He chucked some wicked tunes on the playlist and even listened to our new song "Drama Queen" and bought a Neos t-shirt !! which was super nice of him he said he would even wear it on stage when he performs next with his band Six60. He also recommended a very seductive new cider at the bar by Paynter's from the Hawke's Bay that was fantastic!! good call Gary thats a real nice drink :)

One of the songs that made onto the playlist last Saturday night

Our new song Drama Queen that we recorded ourselves

"Caught Up In Your Game" - Official Song Lyrics
High School sweethearts met at seventeen
He's from a rich family she's a beauty queen
When school was over he started screwing around
But like a puppy she would never let him down

It makes me sick it makes me sick ...

You two
You two deserve each other
You two
You'll never change
You two
You make me grateful that I'm
No longer caught up in your game

Was I an escape for you or just some chick
I should have known it wasn't right it just didn't click
Man I feel sorry for her I bet it hurts
But they say you take the love you think you deserve

It makes me sick it makes me sick ...

You two
You two deserve each other
You two
You'll never change
You two
You make me grateful that I'm
No longer caught up in your game

It makes me sick it makes me sick ...

You two
You two deserve each other
You two
You'll never change
You two
You make me grateful that I'm
No longer caught up in your game

Rackets Found Dead - Walking the Skeleton

Stream the Album above and start Living!!!

Well I'll be damned those kinky King's of old skool Slacker rockyroad fame Rackets drop a sick new album "Walking the Skeleton" straight from the top of the Dirt Pile. The musical range on this record could be likened to a Valentines buffet meal its vast, unhygienic and yet you really want to eat it all in a facken instant!! nutty professor style. Hysterical Nietzschean madness aside oh yes on a more proper and eloquent British note, quaint, the audio work from the Auckland rockers took many moons to construct including a few blue moons were we all know what happens. Like some bollocks new state funded National motorway to John Key's Ponytail caressing paradise the is over! but are we there yet? I'm not gonna lie this album is an emotional roller-coaster with all the highs and lows of a refreshingly painful joke that the past NZ election was, but what do Kiwi's finnd so inherently magnetizing about the colour blue?

From a personal down to earth tip of the Fedora my fav track that really is a heart to heart tear jerker is "Swan Song" with a flaming performance of god knows who from the band playing some Spanish castanet's which sounds as if their life depended on it or perhaps their rent! to the classic boistorious rock fuelled antics of "Barracuda" offering in my dark mind a high-class Remeura lady on the hunt like a paranoid piranha that at the same time offers up the greatest lyrical highlight of the record from my view;

"I taught my brother and sister both Karate"

We then do a drunken backward U-turn without indication into an atomic musical swerve that sees us together wading waste deep into the seas of the Mediterranean Hawaiian shirt unbottoned pinacalada in one hand our best mate Jez being swept off into the surf never to be seen again withourselves just caught in the moment laughing at the beauty of the world while languishing in the melody laden obnoxiously phat snare young cash money sound of "Fools Gold" with what i might add is a really stand out vocal performance on the record from none other than the All Black's themselves leading their tone-deaf fans into a Rocking haka

But wait a second Rackets comes charging out of Rugby Union changing room ready to rock out in the middle of the field they storm the stage playing fasce shattering powerslides from the new record the Super bowl at halftime is eclipsed by the almost NZmericans going wild Katy Perry faints in a self-induced Diva moment overwhelmed by her bosom and for a moment the world is in a complete of Buddhist like harmony as a car crashes into the stadium filled with an Isis militia trying to stop the musical Rugby broadcast in all its footy glory they are hacked down one head at a time by the Sonic power of Rackets unbudging nationalism backed up by the thunder thighs of Jonah Lomu propelled by a healthy morning meal of South Auckland ghost chips.

In all sobriety what a colossal stonker of an Album Rackets you have all earnt a well deserved outstanding F+ for your services to derail the brainwashed public of New Zealand your knighthoods are already in the mail with a lifetimes supply of scorched almonds :) :) :)

Cure Motel - The Rotten side of Mangawhai Tavern

Auckland based recording artist Cure Motel and his Gonomada Tour were not happy muso's at Mangawhai Tavern this week . On their nationwide tour they thought it would be brilliant to pay their respects to Managwhai Tavern. A famous venue that they were stoked to be performing at. Unfortunately the reality of the venue was a complete illusion. When the tour first stepped into the venue there was a cold atmosphere. The management eventually came out to greet them and then immediately told them they didn't have a P.A. Something that the band was depending on the venue supplying. Something they could have brought but thought they wouldn't need. Despite this significant set-back Cure Motel and DJ Romantech managed to source a sound system from a neighboring venue the Pippi Lounge that were hospitable and warm.

However, despite acquiring a p.a for the gig Mangawhai tavern management were still throwing spanners in the work. For instance once the band had set-up their guitars, dj players and synths they were told to move right into the corner of the deck. This being at odds with the band who were happy being in the centre of the deck and trying to make the most of a bad situation. The managers then told the acts to turn their speakers up to blistering level. A volume that was potentially ear shattering as the subs on the system were already close to exploding. Apparently Managwahai tavern wanted people who lived in the hills to get excited and come down, never mind the hearing of touring musicians?
After discussing the ordeal with lead singer /producer Darcy Gladwin over the phone he also mentioned a severe shortage of food for the musical acts at the venue. Whether this was because of a bad financial position of the venue was not made apparent. The band were aggressively told to buy food at a restaurant across the road. Grudgingly they were given a staff discount but were made to feel severely awkward about asking for one.

Withstanding the bad vibes of the Manawhai tavern Cure Motel believed that the worst action taken by the venue predated Gonomada's arrival. This was because the venue had failed to bill the show on any part of the venue. Tour manager Darcy stated to me; "How the hell are people even going to know we are playing unless the venue does some form of promotion, can't they be bothered writing our name on the venue list. We've travelled hundreds of kilometers to share our music with Managawhai. It's been the worse touring experience ever by a country mile in New Zealand!

The head of management also had the nerve to tell Darcy that she would 'eat him for breakfast" amongst an assortment of disrespectful and threatening snipes. In our conversation about the rotten side of Mangawhai Tavern he summed up the whole debacle as a situation were one is systematically being terrorized by a venue with no compassion. And personally I have to agree with his view point as it really does seem the venue doesn't care about acts that will go on to be high-flyers in the future.
