When Sharks Attack

Last night I watched the film "The Reef" on Netflix's and god damn that is one scary film. If you are scared of boats, sharks and dying of dehydration don't watch it. But if your brave and foolhardy check it out the film. It's based on a true story about some Aussies who have to swim in shark infested waters because their boat capsizes after running aground on a reef. Naturally there is also a deranged Great White Shark that's about the same size an American nuclear submarine that is in full on attack mode and it's favourite thing to do is gnawing off legs, which reminds me of something.
If anyone knows my Dad he's told me my whole life how dangerous boats are and how one should avoid going in them in almost all circumstances. Luckily I have really enjoyed boats and have been on a couple of trips and find them really fun but they are quite dangerous (no child escapes completely from their parents belief system haha). I remember once Dad and I getting stuck in choppy water with all outer board motors giving up the ghost on a small boat in open water. The constant rocking feeling made me feel really sea-sick, and the fear in my Dad's eyes and voice let me know we were close to death (or something like that!). But we managed to survive hoisting a sail into the air and sailing on home like the good old British Navy did back in those evil colonialist day.
After the trip Dad had a tremendous ulcer in his mouth that looked like it was starting to develop conscious. Thankfully it didn't take over the host. It was rather strange though because Dad could control the ulcer and make it go up and down like his tongue or hand. It took him weeks to recover from that trip but I really liked it. We sailed up to Mansion house and visited the island with all the jumping baby kangaroos and pompous peacocks. We tried to catch, chase or harangue anything that moved. We also saw a giant Manta ray in the water were we had been swimming only moments before on our last day. My friend's Bruce and Henry got in the small dinghy along with their Dad Tony and chased it with a paddle as it skimmed under the water out to sea.

Colonel Sanders Meem is Wrong!!

this story is so wrong he actually got given a petrol station rent free by general manager of Standard Oil of Kentucky at age 40. He later bought a motel and started up a restaurant from this considerable leg up! But he was a funny guy; Sanders remained critical of Kentucky Fried Chicken's food. In the late 1970s he told the Louisville Courier-Journal: "My God, that gravy is horrible. They buy tap water for 15 to 20 cents a thousand gallons and then they mix it with flour and starch and end up with pure wallpaper paste. And I know wallpaper paste, by God, because I've seen my mother make it. ... There's no nutrition in it and they ought not to be allowed to sell it. ... crispy recipe is nothing in the world but a damn fried dough ball stuck on some chicken."
At age 5 his Father died.
At age 16 he quit school.
At age 17 he had already lost four jobs.
At age 18 he got married.
Between ages 18 and 22, he was a railroad
 conductor and failed.
He joined the army and washed out there.
He applied for law school he was rejected.
He became an insurance sales man and failed again.
At age 19 he became a father.
At age 20 his wife left him and took their baby daughter.
He became a cook and dishwasher in a small cafe.
He failed in an attempt to kidnap his own daughter, and eventually he convinced his wife to return home.
At age 65 he retired.
On the 1st day of retirement he received a cheque from the Government for $105.
He felt that the Government was saying that he couldn’t provide for himself.
He decided to commit suicide, it wasn’t worth living anymore; he had failed so much.
He sat under a tree writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished with his life. He realised there was much more that he hadn’t done. There was one thing he could do better than anyone he knew. And that was how to cook.
So he borrowed $87 against his cheque and bought and fried up some chicken using his recipe, and went door to door to sell them to his neighbours in Kentucky.
Remember at age 65 he was ready to commit suicide.
But at age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Empire was a billionaire.
Moral of the story: Attitude. It's never too late to start all over.
MOST IMPORTANLY, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE. NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GETS.
You have what it takes to be successful. Go for it and make a difference. No guts no glory. It's never too old to dream.

Tuning Fork - NZ Festival Network night - Thanks MMF

What a great night! I went along with my Dad Jeremy to the Tuning Fork to chat with some bookers of NZ music festivals to find out how to possibly play one. The bookers were thankfully all really nice people and had great advice. It was so interesting to hear about the different approaches each festival takes to make their one stand out and what they are looking for from musicians. Thanks MMF New Zealand for all your work and helping connect artists!  Moss Bioletti

Salsoul Records - My fav Disco label

Today I read a book on the history of the disco music movement. To my surprise I discovered the power of independent record labels that ran the game. My favourite disco label was Salsoul Records started by 3 brothers and spearheaded by one particular brother. The label sold their first single to a major for 100k as the bigger company wanted to take it too the pop charts, they failed.

But the money was still paid and allowed the brothers to invest in roughly ten singles with the best studio musicians in Philadelphia. Their second single went on to sell 400,000 copies and the first album around 500,000.

However, the brother did get stuck in a bad position and had to release the first album himself but lucky he did! because they got all the money haha. By the 80's disco was dead, I wonder if modern electronica will be the same? Whats for certain is 'dance music' continuning aka music that makes human beings dance, the question is in what genre and style next!

It's a battle to be the best person you can be
the most creative caring compassionate individual you can muster
Try to judge people not on their flaws but there virtues
look at all the greats and you'll see jaggered cracks and
imperfection in the idealised sheen you cast upon them

Ate A Frog - Moss Rock

Random act of Kindness

Random act of Kindness
Not everyone’s suffering from blindness
I man grabbed my hand said good day
Smiled and walked away
i was taken aback
Surprised, taken aback by such a random act of kindness
But then I thought back
And placed his face finding it in a lost memory bank
I recognized him from days gone past
He was the man I saw walking around in daze
Encircling the mt albert shops
months ago seems like years
When I was waiting for some takeaways
The proverbial fish and chips
I saw the same man in a black hoodie
Breathing frost out of his nostrils on a windswept night
He combed the streets like a well trained assassin
Or a hairdresser on drugs
He scanned up and down the pavement for cigarette butts
His search was futile but he seemed happy enough
I watched him as he gave up
Before he crossed the the street at the traffic lights
He turned to me with an exuberance you rarely see
I smiled back genuinely
Is it not strange how he remembered me

cheap Hollywood ass flickers like a pixelated picture

There's a fine line between love and hate
Hell and heaven are just minutes away
The champ said the weak break
And only the strong survive
Does that mean I'm destined to fall
While others thrive
Like a glass window shattering
Contorting falling snapping
can this bad luck stop happening
i need to feel real magic no smoke and mirrors
cheap Hollywood ass flickers like a pixelated picture
was Iverson wrong when he said the strong dont crumble
like a pill turnt to white powder
Roses in Full bloom perish too
The weak grow strong
when you save their lives
Strengths a foundation that's constantly shaking
dont exist just live but avoid indoctrination
by the status quo of developed nations
the irony is that powerful seal their fate
to play the victim, when we turn our backs
We're all born with nothing and leave so quick
To be reborn brand new and come back to earth
Falling from the clouds in and out of love
can we Break up to Make up so i forget the hurt
another long lost love affair repeating endlessly
I cry my eyes out but they dry Again
Am I
I am
I'm ready
I'm ready too
I'm ready to fall in love again
