The Neo-Kalashnikovs & Force Fields - North Island NZ Tour in May (NZ Music Month)

The Neo-Kalashnikovs & Force Fields - First leg of the NZ TOUR 2014

Forcefields (WGTN) and The Neo-Kalashnikovs (AKL) plan to decimate the North Island’s main centres;
Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington in May (NZmusic month). They aim to build local buzz around their new singles “Zeroing” & “Treat Me Right”

The tour came about from a chance encounter online. The bands have never met so it will either be a
saucy first-date or perhaps a steamy love affair who knows? There might be a shotgun wedding in Auckland, a motel honeymoon in Hamilton or an expensive divorce in Wellington. What’s going to
happen in Palmy is anyones guess? One thing is for sure though both bands mean business!

With Forcefield’s solid live reputation in Wellington and The Neos heavy radio play on Hauraki FM
this is a tour for NZ rock fans nationwide. From the angst student to the tough nut tradey and all
those uptight brain surgeons in between ‘we will rock you!’ With brain-splattering bass, face searing guitars & soul wrenching vocals they’ve got you bro!

Tickets available on the door for just $10 and $15 with your very own signed CD

Tour Dates:
Friday May 2nd - Tabac, Auckland
Saturday May 3rd - Altitude Bar, Hamilton
Friday May 16th - The Royal, Palmy
Saturday May 17th - Bodega, Wellington

The Neo-Kalashnikovs view on Sampling - Arctic Monkeys leading the Charge

I heard Arctic Monkeys Arabella early last week. It's awesome to hear rock bands sampling classics like "War Pigs". Obvioulsy it's not as good as Ozzy's song but it is a sick tune thats for sure. In terms of songwriting i'm pretty rubbish but I think it's a good idea to imitate art because their are no rules at all in the abstract medium of music. Especially rock were the sound aims to be authentic and fresh. I for one know a song I'd really like to hear a new version of just slightly sampled by a new song. I actually think sampling is the way to do a superiour cover of a song. As it allows an artist to pick out there favourite parts of a composition and infuse it with something new. Good on the Arctic Monkeys for bringing the sample back to Rock 'N' Roll were it rightfully belongs because lets face it The Rolling Stones ripped off everyone under the sign. Hell even "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was a complete rip off the Pixies sound right down to the bassline just done better haha :) Nirvana even had Steve Albini who recorded the Pixies best album by far "Surfer Rosa" record their follow up album "In Utero" and don't even get me started on Dave Grohl haha just joking

Moss
P.S - Gabe loves "In Utero" such a great record

The Great Poet Murray Haddow of Auckland City

http://murrayhaddow.bandcamp.com

Internet shy Mr Haddow has finally joined Facebook!
This great Grey Lynn poet/gardener/comedian has been performing wildly & passionately in NZ for the last few decades with drummers, lawn mowers, saxophone players and full bands. He is a true hidden treasure of Auckland and New Zealand's poetry & music culture. He can recant John Cooper Clarke poems like there is no tomorrow and performs poetry as a true artist does, for the love of it.

The Scottish rock band The View are big fans of Mr Haddow after they played a show with him in Auckland a while back and knowing him personally and having performed with him countless times I can say I am a mega fan of this man. He has supported me and my band from the very beginning and inspired me so much artistically. If you are lucky enough to know about him you are sure to become a fast fan of this humble and very talented artist. Show him your love.

Premier: These Violent Delights - Unreleased Songs Now Streaming - Produced by The Neo-Kalashnikovs

Here are the first live streamings of These Violent Delights produced by Volita Bioletti of The Neo-Kalashnikovs. The as yet unreleased songs were recorded and mixed by Ollie Harmer at The Lab studios in Mt Eden.

These Violent Delights are Blue, AJ, Belinda & Scot all veteran rockers from Auckland, New Zealand.
The group recently preformed a packed out showcase at Kinja bar hosted by John Cameron in Whangaparaoa. I was their to witness their performance first hand and loved it. The stand out track on the night judging by the crowds reaction was "Underground". The song actually reminds me of so many awesome 90's rock anthems that I have grown up listening too. I'm really excited about this new song as I definitely think it has some legs on it.

The official release of the untitled E.P will be due out early 2014. The release will be handled by Rocawave Records in NZ, Aus and their PR subsidiary (name withheld) in Britain. The release will also be out through White Zoo Records, Italy. Doors are still open for label and distribution enquiries in the U.S ;) rocawaverecords@gmail.com

Have a RockNRolling good time going into 2014 and keep those amps up loud!!!

Premier: The Neo-Kalashnikovs - "Blue Lithium" music video (Shot in Dublin, Ireland)

Hi guys here is our latest music video "Blue Lithium". After filming the "Gorgeous Baby" video I dropped into Dublin, Ireland. Well Dolphin Barn to be exact were our family rock out. The thing I love most about Dublin has to be the Guinness, there's just nothing like a Guinness in Dublin lol. The statute of my hero Phil Lynott the lead singer and bass player of Thin Lizzy is also a highlight in the heart of the city. The video "Blue Lithium" was shot and directed  by our youngest niece Tallulah Davey and styled by Bella Davey.

The recording is really indie and raw. I guess thats what happens when you record in an ex-gambling facility with a microphone and a pre-amp. The video is inspired by the economic turmoil in Ireland. Especially the issues of rising prices and living costs faced by the people in their struggle against the banks. We really hope things turn around in Dublin because the city is truly breath taking and the people even more so.

Buy "Blue Lithium" here for 1 EURO or the whole "Take it Or Leave It" E.P for 2 EUROs

The Neo-Kalashnikovs - An Interview on Self-Promotion & SoundCloud for the Indie Artist

You're doing pretty good with 1300+ followers on sound cloud. What do you think helped the most in getting this far?
1) To crank a solid game on sound cloud you need to start liking peoples music, following people up to the 2000  follower limit, write nice comments to people after listening to their music and always comment back to people that take the time to message you enjoying your music

Indie rock is big in the UK but if you had to pick another country in Europe to do concerts, which would it be?
2)If you break America you break the world, Japan and German are also really important for a rock musician. All 3 countries have the biggest music markets in the world. So you can either slum it in New Zealand with platinum album sales or tour America and get paid for moving like 50,000 records which is like ten times platinum in NZ haha. For instance LF =m2 (Larger populations equals more fans which results in money squared haha)

What do you think is the best way to get a following quickly in a short amount of time?
3)Do really awesome albums and give them away on the internet and play shows on Saturdays were ever you can and promote it by shooting video, recording it, poster it, love it haha!!!!

Which radio station in the UK would you want your music to get played on?
4)BBC Radio 1 by Zane Lowe the biggest DJ in the World and a New Zealander too!!! Man that guy needs to spin "Gorgeous Baby" already and stop interviewing Kanye :)

What was the best venue/place you played at?
5) Las Vegas in the middle of Summer, they shut off a block downtown and we rocked out in front of the local college crowd. When I say the sound system was loud it was like Skrillex on crack. After the show we went back to our hotel the El Cortez (one of the oldest hotels in the city). It had been owned by Mafia Bosses to Movie Stars and every hustler in Las Vegas in between. After the show our friend Rico from San Pedro and I (not to be confused with my friend in Highland Park) went off and gambled on the slot machines there. He ended up losing his money so I put mine on the line and with some help from lady Luck managed to break even. By the way we actually grey-hounded into Las Vegas which is insane because its like a 12 drive or a one hour flight haha but its such a euphoric feeling when you see the Bright Lights and how dope is Cesar's palace thats like Ancient Greece on steroids. We ended up having a huge band fight when we got their we were so delirious. Still we had some Long Islands on the side walk you can drink them on the streets there and everything was all good :) The Neos

Rock band The Neo-Kalashnikovs Achieve 40,000 Downloads in Auckland

If you haven't heard of The Neo-Kalashnikovs by now you really are missing out. Their free debut album"She's On Heat" has had over 4000 downloads amassing over 40,000 individually downloaded songs. The albums cover adorned by a flame engulfing the bands logo was released in November 2012 in New Zealand. The rock album has gained an outstanding review from critics and NZ rock fans. It's not hard to see why either as their songs have huge hooks that are lyrically outstanding and do justice to rock 'n' roll in general. If you like Nirvana, The Black Keys or bands like Queens of the Stone Age you will love this band, a lot.

Whats even more electrifying about the Auckland based rock band is that they are all directly related. Lead singer Volita Bioletti is the oldest who also plays electric guitar. The youngest sibling Gabriel Bioletti plays bass and Keyboards while middle child Moss Bioletti smacks the stuffing out of the drums. Im of the opinion that the trio really do know their way around the rock genre. This should come as no surprise either as they have been gigging regularly since they were in their teens. I guess this is one of the main reasons why album "She's On Heat" breathes the flames of veteran tenacity. Perhaps all those dingy bar gigs in L.A and New York that the band has rumored to play in early 2011 have some truth to them. Hands down my favorite songs off the debut are "Diamonds" that sees a guitar screaming out of a Marshall stack. "I Don't Wanna be Your Friend" which is an uber hipster classic rock song and the truly heartfelt beauty of "Shining Star" that is lyrically elegant.

After listening to the album over and over again there is no doubt in my mind that Olly Harmer played a vital role in making "She's On Heat" as good as it is. His recording prowess that has seen him produce more hit records than you've had hot dinners in Mt Eden is evident. His most recent contribution that proved pivotal was the recording of "The Naked and Famous" album that achieved Gold status in the U.S. Despite all the technicalities of hit records I am going to stop writing this article and go back to listening to "She's On Heat" because this is Kiwi rock at its best. And there is no need to worry If you haven't been lucky enough to download a copy because its available for free at theneokalashnikovs.com. You can also tweet the band at @neokalashnikovs and like them at facebook.com/theneokalashnikovs if you become super-fans to keep up with all their raucous antics, lets hope they stay out of jail.

A snap shot of The Neo-Kalashnikovs Favourite Rock Albums

I just wanted to share some of The Neo-Kalashnikovs favorite Rock records of recent times. Many of you know that we are into a whole range of artists from Iggy Pop to The Black Keys and our all time favorite Nirvana. The reason I want to share our influences with you for is because I recently read that

"The album is Dead"

The music critics said this was due to the fact that the internet era had destroyed the album economically. Apparently "the album was the only form that the music industry found to monetize music", really?? t-shirts, live shows, endorsements seem to spring to mind. But whatever the case I don't think albums will be going anywhere anytime soon and if anything they well just get better and better. Lets face it a classic album is much better than a hit record because it lasts longer, a hit single is here one day gone tomorrow a classic album lasts forever in every new generation.

Here they are:
The Black Keys: "Brothers" (Soul drenched Swamp Rock)
http://youtu.be/8oIleJxHTN0

This album is so sick and it's not just because it was recorded at Muscle Shoals studio were The Rolling Stones recorded "Goat's Head Soup" & Lynyrd Syynrd recorded "Freebird". It's wicked because of the super groovy drum feels, rocktastic guitar tones and powerful lyrics, the vocals are also distorted to perfection vocals. The ethos of Patrick Carney the bands drummer is right on as well he says if in doubt play the drums as hard as you can!!!.

The Silversun Pickups - Swoon (L.A Rock at its Best)
http://youtu.be/C9lEkiKP8LM

I remember when I heard this record I was impressed I listened to it constantly on repeat for quite a while. Seeing the lead singer at a tiny gig in at Echo Park in Cali also springs not mind such good vibes surround this record. They are such a veteran band the lead singer said that if he played to 7 people and made a connection that was the best thing ever. They played around L.A for almost 10 years a lot of people thought they were rubbish.
The album is just pure symbol of perseverance in the face of adversity. The Silversun Pickups name also comes from the local liquor store they youse to frequent a lot!!. Apparently they lived on Miller's Beer for a couple of months lol. My favorite tracks on this record are "The Royal We", "Growing Old is Getting Old" and "Panic Switch".

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (Road Worn Battle Rock)
http://youtu.be/uElD3acEdsQ

Well this album is an older album but you can't really top it. The album can be best described as a "F&%kin Fighter". Tom Petty's emotion in this album is spellbinding. I'm surprised this album doesn't punch you in the face when you put it on it has so much attitude. I love the drumming on this album because even though the drummer was a maniac and everyone wanted to get rid of him he just had that swag. I reckon if hadn't been on the album this record would have been rubbish. As it were though he made the cut and drummed this record into rock history. You can also really hear that this album was recorded on tape by pros. The musicianship on every song is spectacular. I really can't say enough good stuff about this record.

Nirvana - Nevermind (GRUNGE)
http://youtu.be/olLrLsPsSZk

This album is amazing and It really annoys me to hear how Butch Vig was the guy who made this record a rock milestone. Without Kurt Cobian, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic this album wouldn't even exist. One of the most important people outside the band that made this record the utter business was Andy Wallace who fixed up the whole record after Butch Vig did a lame ass job mixing the album. Kurt Cobain apparently went into the studio and told Mr Vig to give up because all he heard was treble. Anyway Wallace delivered the bass and compression in the mixes that made "Nevermind" well "Nevermind". "In The Bloom", "Come As You Are" and "Smell's Like Teen Spirit" are my favourites. This is a sick album if not the sickest album ever!!!.

The Neo-Kalashnikovs New Music video for "Take It Or Leave It" (In a Mustang)

Here is the official music video for "Take It Or Leave It" by The Neo-Kalashnikovs.
Moss Bioletti and Katie Oh directed the video for the band. Owen Harris supplied the American Muscle of the red 66' Mustang and they all took it for a spin down Queen St. It was a wild video this one and it was a very spur of the moment endeavour. Volita the singer of The Neo-Kalashnikovs managed to hire an awesome red light for the video that really brought it everything together. The video was shot on an Iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy camera. Charlie Bioletti and Alister Spelter manned the lights with Jack over from the United States. The song "Take it Or Leave It" was recorded with award winning recording engineer Olly "Magic" Harmer at the iconic Lab Studios in a day which produced the singles "Turn The Tables" and "Gorgeous Baby"too. The album "Gorgeous Baby" is available as a free instant download here. And you can stream "Take it Or Leave It" below. The Bioletti siblings will be getting to work on their next release "Urban Warfare" very soon all the songs are written and just need to be rehearsed and recorded.

The Neo-Kalashnikovs New Rock Video "Bohemia"

The Neo-Kalashnikovs have just released their latest music video for rock song 'Bohemia'
off 'She's On Heat'. The Music video for 'Bohemia' is all about playing rock for everyone who has died and can't do so anymore. The main message of the song and video is to keep playing rock for everyone that you want to remember who is gone. The passion for living life and withstanding the trials and tribulations is what 'Bohemia" stands for. The band Metallica and they're song "Nothing Else Matters" was an influence on this track. Stream the Video Below:
