Freaky Meat's New Heavy Metal E.P - It Was Like That When I Found It - Hits Hard!

What an amazing new record "It Was Like That When We Found It" by local Auckland rock artists Freaky Meat. I've known Shane, John, James and Jules since way back and I'm super stoked for them. Their playing on their new E.P is exceptional! Shane' and John's sparring vocals verse guitars are a non-stop battle royal which turns deadly when combined with the thundering death machine of James and Jules on drums and bass. I'm off to listen to this on a super powerful stereo with serious bass response right now.  Make sure to rock up to the release party for "It Was Like That When We Found It" this coming Friday night Oct 25th at Backbeat, be there!

Today we had a great recording session in Point Chev with our great friend and record producer Justin James. Coffee is always brilliant at Tonewheel Studio and recording chains of pre-amps, mics and converters got everything sounding silky smooth. Live video footage of Volita singing will be posted up today or tomorrow. — in Point Chevalier.

LOCAL ROCKERS: The Bonzai Birds - Wrong Is Right As Rain

Great guitar tones and a nice opening refrain with chilled out vocals all combining together  bring to mind an NZ Tame Impala. A band that must be one of the only Australasian rock bands to be nominated for a Grammy. The song is a rhythumic juxtaposition  with blending tones and melodies which make it in my mind a great song to listen to on a rainy Sunday morning (smoking a cigarette). If this is the benchmark of Bonzai Birds work I'm excited and looking forward to hearing more music from these rockers. "Right As Rain" is definitely a song with multiple layers which is the best type of song, because every time you listen to it you can focus in on new parts of the arrangement keeping things dope. A really promising song commercially and critically. Moss from The Neos

THE BLACK KEYS "Turn Blue" Album Cover Leaks Online

The Black Keys "Turn Blue" cover art designed by in-house Grammy award winning designer Michael Carney has apparently been leaked online. Insiders suspect a rabid groupie called Linda close to the rockstars committed such a venomous act. The well known drunk nick-named "Linda-Loo" as she is well known for spewing in toilets apparently got enraged when her mustard double cheese hamburger did not arrive on time while recording at the Black Keys Nashville based studio. It is still unverified whether this is in fact the cover art for the bands eminent release across North America. However, what has been discovered by a loose lipped recording engineer out of music city is that Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have been bickering over the album cover for months. The bone of contention has been the hue of the blue elephant that the band commissioned to sit on top of a life size elephant toilet. The photo was rumored to have been shot in Africa on Twitter and by all accounts the toilet looks fully functional. Amongst other controversies the Black Keys have been taking to social media to market their new album through Mike Tyson's twitter account. The Bilboard Hot 100 said it was a brilliant move for the band to attack the boxing fan demographic. This often overlooked section of the record buying public has not yet realized that you can download music for free on the internet. Their record company None Such records part of the juggernaut Warner Sisters says they hope to see sales triple in the Keys first week.

Linguistic Rap genius Tourettes will be teaming up with Volita Bioletti of The Neo-Kalashnikovs for "The 2014 Kerouac Effect" happening Thursday 13th of March at The Winchester. The show celebrates the poetry of Jack Kerouac and will see 12 musicians and 12 poets take to the stage for one  night only to preform two brand new works. The collaborators will meld original music and words together in the heart of Auckland city. It promises to be truly exciting night of entertainment for music and poetry lovers alike. Shane Hollands the founder of the event will also feature in the line-up!

These dudes album "Yardboat" is really unique and trippy. This performance of theirs wouldn't be a miss at Woodstock awash with the vibes that go with a concert of such epic proportions. 
I really like the songs "Magnetoception" and "Fountains of Gold" there names alone are brilliant.

They have subtle influences of the Doors and bands of that era. It seems to me the more you think about these guys the better they are. The drummers ghost name game is on point. The long hair is
kick-ass. Also the background vocals remind me of the Klaxons monster hit but instead of limited to one song they span the whole album "Yardboat". You can stream it on Spotiy.

 You'd be a fool to say these guys don't have some magic. The potential for them to make a super tripped out hit is very high in my opinion. It would be cool if Eric Clapton did a guitar solo on their next album. Hints of Creme springs to mind and those dudes are legends. Their album "Yardboat" is very nice to listen to the production is intense. I'd love to know who recorded it. All and all a great new band. The riffing on the intro of "Country Moon" is sublime.

Rocawave Records: First Digital Release on Day One of 2014 - Haters Want Me Clapped in Chrome

Here it is the first digital release on Rocawave Records called "Haters want me Clapped in Chrome".                       The song samples a classic drum break lovingly sculpted with Maag E.Q (plugin).                                   The bass line was then pounded out on a very outdated vst synthesiser cloning a 
                trashy early roland. The vocals are unmistakable those of  
Mr Jay-Z the "Hova" Carter. 

The art design was tackled by the label as well as mixing & mastering. This song is really an instrumental to be freestyled over. But to be honest for that lone minute (literally) listening to this        track you could probably pretend your 2pac rolling round in LA for all I care. 

F@ck it's good to be RockNRolling in 2014. Day one into this year and it's fitting to have our first release on the same day to keep our swag up. And best believe there's gonna be some dope rock, dance music due out this year!!!

New Artist: Ferreira Sky - Superstar on the Rise

I'm know an instant fan of Ferreira Sky. I thought she was someone that was signed by a drop kick producer that had made some hits. In actual fact this girl is awesome. I like how she is a bit unsure of herself and her own musical abilities! but really she has nothing to worry about. Her artistic call to collaborate with Gasper Noe was tremendous and has paid a divined. His art direction or guidance has helped Sky really made cut through visually, her video clips and artwork are very oringial and yet so familiar (psycho).

In many ways she reminds me of a porcelain doll and a super-model wrapped up in a fragile body embed with a rockers die-hard soul. The news on the street is that she will be touring with musics number one chick Miley Cyrus in 2014. No doubt the tour will go off and their will be some headlines involved thats for sure haha. Check out the video that converted someone that hadn't even heard her music to a person keen to see more from this talented and beautiful woman. I knew that grey t-shirt in Ariel Pinks video was a piss take haha!!!
