Dope New Videos from; Shakes - "Tambourine Girls" & Pikachunes "You Are"

Shakes new video 'Tambourine Girls" dropped last week and if I am not mistaken the songs sounding even better with some funny Jack-blasque visuals to go with it. But do I have a stigma in my left eye or does the guy in the video when he rips his t-shirt of and starts dancing/jiggling nah shaking around look a hell of a lot like the star of the School of Rock haha. On a serious note something really strikes me about this video that I feel compelled to write about and pose the serious question, where the hell are the "Tambourine Girls"?? I mean I like the guy playing all the instruments and find him entertaining to watch and his smile is in infectious and heart warming but I would have really liked to see some hot sexy girls undressing instead possible flanking him then pushing around and finally maybe dressing him up like a girl and turning into one of them haha that would have really answered my question. But with a white turtle neck that reminds me of Diana Keaton starring opposite Jack Nicholson in one of my fav films "Something Gotta Give" it's hard not to love this video and I really hope to God there are woman in the next video :)!!!! p.s can't wait to hear Shakes next record that they are currently recording

The animation for this video fits perfectly with the song i love the dystopian tragedy and darkness swimming through "You Are". In my humble uneducated view I think this is a real return to form from Pikachunes an artist that has had to battle some serious health issues in the recent past. Admittedly I don't know to much music from him except for his really early stuff that I saw on the telly but I definitely know about him and I liked this video enough to surf through Youtube and check out some live performances! He's also friends with my friend Ant who I went to school with and played some mean games of indoor cricket with in intermediate which is cool :). I love the drum machines on "Who Are"and also like the kind of rough mix too which is creative and uncompromising = kickass. If this tune is a taste of things to come I will definitely be dialing into check out the upcoming album on Monday records (Aussie label). I'd also be really interested to know who drew/animated the video it would be real cool if Pika did it himself!!! :)

Fav production aspect: The Synth tones they make me imagine sitting in some pagan ass church with the artist preaching to a room of evil daleks before the death-star explodes

Puppet Rebellion - A Fantastic New Rock Band from Manchester, UK !!!

Check out the uber-talented band "Puppet Rebellion" that hail form Manchester, UK the heart of RockNRoll. I discovered them on twitter and i'm really glad I did. Just listening to their song "The New Twenty" has made me feel happier and it's a complete and utter keeper.

The highlights of the track for me are the rolling snare intro that is executed perfectly, then it's the guitars that are bloody brilliant I wonder what effect they are using. However, its The Strokes like vocals that really capture my heart and the bass playing keeps a firm grip on it, love that bass.

I think these lads have buckets of potential so get out there NZ and UK rockers and download their songs, tell your friends and see them preform live. Lastly i've just got to say that their black and white photo above is the best piece of band photography I have seen a very long time!!!

New Song by Kid Cudi - "Satellite Flight" (Out 2 Days)

Here's the latest song from Kid Cudi. It's been out only two days and has racked up over 250,000 plays (nice). The fans are feeling the track as well. My favourite part is the sampled intro (brilliant). Im my mind this song seems very smoked out. But thats not a bad thing and I am a really solid supporter of Kid Cudi. Personally my favourite song he's ever done is "Sound Track To My Life" (See below).                      

"Satellite Flight" is a great song that definitely grows on you and gets better the more listens you give it. The song would bloom with a wacky as hell video with martians and satellites.

My description of the song and events that lead up to its production would be: Kid Cudi waking up from a deep slumber in his bed on Mars.  Then after having an asteroid shower, deciding to record a new song through a cherished vaporiser, before escaping into space with his moon boots. I guess now he's just a Satellite in space in mid-flight trying to survive. Stay tuned for a new record dropping out of the sky from Cudderland.

Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground

Me and Lou Reed have had a good time over the years. Through his music me and him have really got along. The effect Lou has had on my life has been very personal. I can't really explain it but maybe you will understand it when I say I feel I know him. He has rubbed off on me, he's left a mark on me like a good parent does. His music has taught me more about life than any teacher ever will. 

When I was younger my father introduced me to this album by The Velvet Underground:

"The Velvet Underground & Lou Reed - Live 1969, Vol.01 & 02 (CD version)"

The first thing I loved about it was the cover. I remember asking myself can you have a picture like that on a cover and will it be alright???? Thankfully the world hasn't ended because of this risqué and in my opinion the hottest cover ever made. The second thing I loved was how the lyrics resonated within me.

The swagger, the nerve, the freedom, the artistic merit (that was untaught and untouched) staunchly coupled with the happiness of playing rock music live made this album absolutely magic. It's so raw, it's so real it makes me want to scream! Lou taught me through this album that life aint glossy no matter who tries to feed you that notion, he taught me rough n real is good, the tough life is rewarding and working hard at being you leads to purpose. I find a lot of people my age struggle to find who they are which is distressing to see. Because of Lou Reed and my other idols I have never had that problem. They really addressed the meaning of living, being, dying and singing for me. 

This album taught me you don't have to be perfect, you can sing anyway you please.
You don't have to be anything you don't wannabe, you can be free. 

 It taught me to be me. The self-empowerment that came with this album defiantly in part lead me to dedicate my life to the art of rock music. 

 It's pretty subconscious when you are introduced to such music at a young age hence the reason I can't fully explain what it truly did to me. I do know it lead me to high school where I covered the song "I can't stand it anymore" with complete dedication over and over again (this song I still hold as my favourite song by him). It also later lead me to the reload album on vinyl and finally to the masterpiece Berlin album in my early twenties which helped me get through some very tough times. I'd just like to say thank you to Lou Reed for putting so much life and time into his rock music and to Andy Warhol who saw the potential in Lou and gave him a kick up the butt and told him to work harder. The hard work paid off in the end and now I am and we are left with a beautiful legacy in ode to life and rock music.
