Living it up at the Mikano "Bollywood Affair"

I've been pretty social lately and had a great time at the sold event "Bollywood Affair" at Mikano last Saturday.  My friends and I got suited up for the event as it was a formal dress code which was classy in a good way. My Mum thought we looked Pulp Fiction after seeing our photo on Facebook haha.

I can't remember the last time i dusted off the old suit, must've been Abbiruth's last court appearance haha just joking. All the guys were pretty liquored up on scotch and feeling jolly. I was sticking to ginger ale like a model citizen and sober as after a while we all trooped off to the event after listening to some music and jesting banter. When we arrived a line was already starting to form so we jumped in and got all our tickets sorted and slid past the bouncer. Lucky we scored tickets online instead of getting them on the door as there were no sales on the night to be had. When we got into the place the dance-floor was already going off with Dj's slaying everyone with Indian dance music and just the right volume too not to loud but still powerful enough!

 The chandeliers in the photo were swinging, shining and sparkling and the gang was setting the dance-floor on fire with drunken grins and yelps of glee. When things started to get crazy we all pretty much split off and did our own thing mingling and chatting with punters and trying to get numbers and the like. After to many hours dancing we exited the venue but all at different times Waffles was the first to hit the road at 1am, I gaped the scenes at 2am, Abbiruth at 3:30am in the morning with Soorya and finally the last man standing on the night Abhinaw Sai rolled out the door and all the way home at 4:30am what a legend. 

Crawling in a Box Propelled by Circular Legs - catching up with B1 & B2

Caught up with my good friend B1 and B2 earlier in the week. I thought there was a jazz gig happening at Orleans downtown but I got to the bar just to be told it was the day before, I couldn't believe how I could've read the poster wrong, I had specifically borrowed one from a notice wall at uni to make sure when it was, then I resigned to the fact that it was a genuine mistake bhhaaa who likes stupid jazz anywho well except Art Pepper and Coltrane.

I quickly called my friends on route to New Orleans and so we went to plan b a much better call usually every time and always far more entertaining. The guys were still crawling into the City in a metal box propelled by circular legs. So in the meantime I got a murder burger which was actually bloody great. Tourists and rough sleepers flopped around the food court in quiet resignation their excitement turned to exhaustion demanding power naps and the congestion of fast food deep fried and dangerous.

I thought back to Earlier in the week while eating my chips I was troubled by a coconut water drink I had enjoyed in a food court off Shortland st (I had foolishly chosen to eat at struck down with a colossal inner city hunger risking death life and limb to enjoy a good meal) the reason for my pondering was due to my dad telling me how Monkeys in Thailand are collecting coconuts off trees to supply the demand for the plethora of cheap coconut water drinks available in NZ! Whilst I drank the water my mind subconsciously searched for traces of monkey in the liquid the tests proved inconclusive and got transferred to my fried frontal cortex.

After I finished my walking meal ironically from the same restaurant I once picketed for firing and mis-treating their workers I moved out into the mid-autumn night. I footed down the grey scratched  street tiles heading up a flaming hill to High st and waved across the deserted square at my friends 30 metres away blatantly drinking in public near a water fountain spewing out thousands of litres of water. We talked some shit then went to get a drink at the Blue stone room, an old ass place off Queen st, outside the venue littered everywhere like drunk leaches Coporate workers drowned their fractured identities with drink after drink off wine, beer and booze, down the hatch. I ordered a black Monteiths beer, B2 choose one to and the ever smooth B1 got hard liquor on ice most likely a blend.

We had a good yarn about B3's recent trip across the ditch to Melbourne. The geezers were surprised at all the whacked out beggars, bums and junkies on the street, thankfully their hard knock host materialised and made it clear the streetwise are pretty much harmless munters. B3 talked about the amazing amount of legal highs available in Ozzy especially in club bathrooms which they thought might even be not so legal. Well sounded like they had a ripper time just one big drunken blur of debauchery just what the doc ordered. They mentioned the famous street art everywhere and the strong indie music scene with bands and venues going for it even on a Bloody Sunday. I quickly took a piss and we made like the good lord and got the flock out of the bluestone room, note to self find out why they call it that name must be about the stone walls of the building i reckon, but are they earthquake proof.

Hot Single: "Feelings" by Borderline Feat Bailey Willey - Summertime Anthem

I was trawling through theaudience.co.nz and discovered "Feelings" a quality single from Borderline. It was doing very well so I decided to give it a spin and was surprised by the infectious nature of the tune. When you hear "Feelings" you really just want to stop what your doing and start dancing not to mention go crazy when the beat drops.

A song like this makes me excited about NZ dance records makes. And I'm definitely keen to see more from the talented producer. I personally this song would be amazing live at a giant festival in the peak of the NZ Summer. I'm sure Rich will be making the crowds go banana's with this track.

The highlights of "Feelings" as a compositon are the Phat synths which bring a springy lower bass frequency to the tune. I love good bass and thats exactly what I hear on "Feelings" it hits you like a brick and makes you want to keep grooving till you can't groove no more. The drums are also super on point and offer a solid foundation for the song. The inherent builds in the track also reminds me off classic DNB tunes that are the benchmark of the genre. Great song. Premier: Little Mix - Little Me: The latest song from the new Spice Girls ;)

This song would be priceless if One Direction were singing it. The song is called "Little Me" by "Little Mix". I don't like the production that much it just doesn't jump out at you. I like my mainstream music more catchy so catchy I hear at once and can't stop myself buying their whole back catalogue on iTunes.

It's no doubt a solid attempt from the Spice Girls but it doesn't speak to me. A whole lot of young woman singing about being poor when they are on a major with a single backed by the dollars.     Seems a bit of a contradiction to be marketing to the everyday person.

I really dislike the monotonous speeches from the people but hey this could be your next favourite song so check it out. The song could grow on me but I just can't see it happening it just reminds me to much of past songs and it comes across as a bit preachy!!!

I'd give Miley Cyrus a spin over the pop tarts any day here is a much better song aye :)

Lock up your daughters and batter down the hatches because Darcy Gladwin aka Cure Motel is getting ready to tear up the clubs across NZ & Aussy. His commercial debut single"Do It (Your Own Way)" out on Rocawave Records has already been testing well on the road. When he played at the Raglan Yot Club the kids stood up, listened and then went crazy!!! 

The single will be worked to radio through Auckland's newest upstart Record company Rocawave and released on physical Cd through Big Cartel, the bands Bandcamps and Itunes for digital download. 

The Neo-Kalashnikovs helped produce the alternative dance rock anthem and its ready for radio rotation thanks to mastering engineer Brian Lucey (the 5 time grammy winner). The band were utterly stoked to be part of the Melbourne producers musical process. Between the two parties sonic heavy artillery was in full operation. And sonic bass lines and powerful lyrics were deployed within the electric circuits of Auckland cities beating heart.

Oringially Volita Bioletti; lead singer and guitarist of the Neos had planned to produce the record herself. However, at the last minute drummer Moss swooped in and whisked the producer off to the Legendary, Lab studios in Mt Eden and got busy buying studio time and offering Darcy a second pair of ears on the final tweaks of the mix. 

Olly Harmer was at the helm of the Neve mixing desk with Darcy firing orders like a general of Dance royalty. Firmly in control of the creative initiative at hand his perceptive ironclad vision, eyed the finest details of the single that most would have missed. The result was the birthing of a soon to be underground smash with huge mainstream crossover potential particular in Japan!!!

The Head of A&R at Rocawave also helped film the whole recording session in the studio. Just so everyone doesn't start to think that Darcy wasn't the man riffing on the Les-Paul on the dance track . Although the release of the track has been delayed momentarily due to Darcy's heavy workload After all he is at the business end of finishing his full feature-length film; "Godplex"!!! 

The Must see NZ film of 2014 stars Shane Holland lead singer of Freaky Meat and has been shot over many Summers in Wellington and all across New Zealand. I was at test screening of the film and visual work is looking exciting and refreashing, especially when compared to the dross of some films being made in this day and age! 

As of writing this article there have also been hot debates on whether Cure Motel and Rocawave Records will license the song "Do It (Your Own Way)" as the theme song for Godplex, it all depends on the artistic vision of Darcy's sound design team who have a certain aesthetic in mind...but you never know! fingers crossed the song will be cleared and underscore a pivotal scene in the movie, I'd pay good money to see that! 

Due to the creative collaboration of actor Shane Holland and director Darcy Galdwin that spans over 10 years. Rocawave demands that both parties. who helm Cure Motel and Freaky Meat respectively should be the first official release on Record Records!! in 2014 

Two brand new music videos are in the wings for the release in mid-January!!!  

Exclusive physical cd's of Rocawaves first release will be available via Cure Motel at every show on his New Zealand Tour in Janurary. 

Both songs will also be Streaming live on Soundcloud very soon.The label is just finalizing which platform will officially premier the two songs.
